Casual Recreational Canoes

Longer canoes generally offer added load capacity, greater paddling efficiency, better tracking (the ability to stay on course), and enhanced stability. This is our choice for family paddling with two adults and kids. Also, give strong consideration to this model if you’ll be taking extended trips with two adults and gear. You’ll appreciate the extra cargo room and glide between strokes. Recommended for larger paddlers, too.
Great Canadian 15
Our favorite canoe for couples. Excels at day tripping on lakes, ponds, rivers and estuaries. Lightweight, easy paddling, stable and predictable. Reserve cargo capacity for a weekend’s excursion with overnight gear. Suitable for solo use, yet easily accommodates three. The moderate length lends agility for tighter turns. A versatile performer with a nice glide.

Our best recreational solo choice. It’s also very popular for two smaller adults or kids, and when light weight is a prime consideration. Agile and responsive, the Great Canadian 13-2 offers nice performance in a compact package. A favorite for solo fishing and photography that conserves the fine lines of the Great Canadian series.
Rabaska-Voyageur Canoe
Organizations of all types, count on the Rabaska to provide a safe, enjoyable experience to groups of paddlers. These organizations include camps, municipalities, the park service, and the military. A team of ten paddlers actually propelled a water-skier for a short time.

The Great Canadian Series has earned it’s reputation as the best in casual touring and recreational canoe design by maximizing versatility, without major trade-offs in performance. First time canoe owners appreciate the sure-footed nature of the Great Canadian and most grow with their canoe to experience far more than they originally expected. With three lengths to choose from, you can tailor your choice to match your own needs. We love the letter and photos we received from recent newlyweds who chose the Ivory Great Canadian 15 to paddle off into the sunset after their wedding ceremony.

Design Fine entry line smoothly parts the water ahead. Compound curves makes transition to full volume for generous footprint and dry ride. Gently arched bottom for excellent initial stability and seaworthiness. Moderate 36" beam for stability and capacity, without sacrificing efficiency. Ample depth for capacity and seaworthiness, without creating excessive wind profile. Keel for tracking without the need for practiced technique, and to prevent side-slip in crosswinds. Straight keel line with rise at ends for blend of tracking and turning ability. Recurved bow for classic looks and dry ride. Moderate tumblehome allows comfortable reach for paddlers.

Duratex™ Construction Super tough hand-laid fiberglass construction. 24 oz. woven roving, 1 oz. mat, with extra reinforcement in key positions. Premium resins and gelcoats. Reinforcing ribs for strength and stiffness. Built-in flotation chambers. Seats are mounted to hardwood blocks glassed into the hull during lay-up and act as additional structural bracing.

This method of construction provides a superb blend of strength, weight and price, without the design limitations found in other materials. Over the years, customers have told us, again and again, they can’t believe how tough and rugged our canoes are.
